“In the beginning of our working relationship Tom [Morello] was fond of giving ‘assignments’. In essence, these were creative devices intended to jumpstart the process of writing a song or a way of focusing on a musical element to lay the foundation for the jam to come. With this song we were instructed to take the bass-line from Metallica’s ‘Seek & Destroy’ and make it the bass-line of our song with the exception being that it would be played backwards. That’s right, the same bass-line note-for-note but with the notes in opposite order. The song was also to be fast tempo and needed a gang vocal saying ‘BO!’ in the chorus.
Thank you for this! Can’t wait to see the rest!

Check out this profile piece in Tampa Patch on Outernational’s drummer, Nate Hassan (also a Florida native), who joined the band in December 2011 and RIPS! Read full piece HERE.
“Hassan said his group’s lyrical content has opened his eyes.
“It’s very revolutionary, very radical, but it’s also art too,” he said. “Through the art, we are waking up people for a better world and for the betterment of humanity.”
Hassan, who grew up in Madeira Beach and graduated from Boca Ciega High School in 1998, cut his teeth in the Tampa/St. Pete music scene before moving to Atlanta and later Los Angeles.
For a while he was part of seminal goth-rock group Christian Death. He toured with them from 2008 through 2010, going to Europe, Argentina and California.”

“I feel like I play a lot of instruments, I have to dress appropriately to match them well; to look fancy like the nice instruments. And part of it is I just wanna smash it super super hard, and this is the best way I know how to do it. Come correct! You know and blow my horn and blow my brains out!” » Watch Dr. Blum talk about his style and instruments via Latin Recap. WATCH: http://youtu.be/kjn0oPI2xY4
